GYM MASTER OFFICES
GymMaster’s five-level headquarters in Christchurch CBD transforms the traditional office into a dynamic, movement-based ecosystem. Commissioned during construction, the fitout rejects open-plan efficiency in favor of a strategy that deliberately increases daily physical activity and team interaction. By positioning shared facilities and kitchens to require travel between floors, staff now average 8,000 steps a day—triple their previous baseline. This egalitarian approach turns routine transitions into moments of incidental connection and creative "thinking time" away from screens.
The interior aesthetic is intentionally raw, featuring exposed steel and black-painted services contrasted by vibrant joinery and timber-lined lounging zones tucked into the building’s raking geometry. The spatial heart of the project is its collection of eight themed bathrooms, which serve as "destinations" rather than mere utilities. These range from a monochrome orange immersive environment and a Japanese onsen-inspired retreat to a "Battlestar Galactica" command center and a custom-printed lunar surface. The result is an office where nobody takes the lift, everybody knows each other’s name, and a trip to the bathroom might land you on the moon.
