NZIA 2016 Canterbury Architecture Awards
Winner - Housing

On a narrow Sumner site, this rebuild replaced a red-zoned property lost in the Canterbury earthquakes. The home wraps around a mature maple tree and private courtyard, balancing privacy with openness. From the low-slung street frontage, the form folds upward to accommodate a second level. A restrained palette of new and recycled materials grounds the house in sustainability and modesty. Winner of the NZIA Canterbury Architecture Award 2016, it was praised for its intelligent composition and clever planning.
